Kansas BBB Issues Locksmith Warning

The Kansas City Better Business Bureau issued a warning this past Monday regarding two locksmith companies operating in the area.

ASAP Services and 24/7 Locksmith (aka Alpha Locksmith) are the companies named in the BBB warning. The companies have had several complaints filed against them for charging more that a fair price for their services.

In one instance, ASAP quoted $50 fee to retrieve keys from the trunk of a car. That price went up to $140 and then the locksmith responding to the call also damaged the car. By the time the consumer had his car repaired and had service done by a reputable locksmith, he had spent $400.

The BBB recommends that consumers be sure they are talking with an actual local company. Avoid companies that answer their phone with a generic statement like ‘locksmith services’. Get an estimate for any work and make sure it includes labor and replacement parts. Check the locksmith’s credential and make sure that the locksmith is insured. Always ask for identification and expect that you will be asked for your identification as well.
