Locksmith in the Line of Fire

It is not uncommon for a locksmith to aid the police in their efforts from day to day. Locksmith John Firestine was involved in a police situation that he would never like to face again.

In this instance, Firestine was called to assist with an eviction notice. He was working with some Lancaster County Sheriffs deputies when they were greeted by a man holding a gun.

After Firestine helped open the door, the deputies still needed to force their way into the home because a piece of wood was stuck in the doorway to prevent entry. When the police were forcing their way in, the man drew his gun. He was instructed to put his gun down, but instead fired. The deputies returned fire and killed the man.

Firestine says that the shots missed him by inches. “If he had not been shot and killed, he would have injured people. His intent was to kill somebody when he was shooting through the door,” said Firestine.
