Locksmith Joins Community in Supporting Zoo

A locksmith is among those in the community rallying to help the Austin Zoo recover after a robbery.

Friday morning the gift shop and the front office were burglarized. The thieves not only broke into the cash register, they also stole the ATM. In addition, surveillance cameras and other electronic equipment were taken.

Over the weekend, a locksmith donated his time to rekey the buildings according to Zoo Director, Patti Clark. In addition to rekeying the buildings, the locksmith also installed a new safe. A surveillance company has offered to donate and install a new camera system.

The electronic and other equipment stolen is valued at $20,000. $5,000 in cash was taken as well.

The zoo has received a great outpouring of support from the community in the aftermath of the robbery.
