Thieves Mark Houses with Fake Locksmith Stickers

Burglars in the UK have a new system for marking properties that offer an easy target. The scam involves men pretending to pass out promotional materials door to door when instead they are actually checking the security at each residence.

Reports stated that any ‘easy’ targets were then marked with a transparent “24 Hour Locksmith” sticker. Police unearthed the scam when they tried to connect with the number on the stickers and found it to be a fake number. A warning was given to residents about the scam.

“We are therefore urging local residents to keep a very close eye out for these stickers and if they find one to remove it straight away and report it to the police.”

The company advertised on the stickers is not a real company. Similar schemes have been uncovered in other areas as well. Residents, even those not located near the areas targeted, should always be cautious and aware that these types of ‘scouting’ actions do take place. For those unsure of the security of their home, a local, trusted locksmith can always help evaluate your home.
